This European Standard specifies a method to determine the concentration of up to 12 individual or defined unresolved small groups of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) congeners in petroleum products and related materials by means of a specified gaschromatographic separation procedure. The gas chromatographic separation is valid for the different quantification procedures described in Part 2 of this European Standard. This European Standard is applicable to unused, used and treated (e.g. dechlorinated) petroleum products including synthetic lubricating oils, and to petroleum products and synthetic lubricating oils suitably recovered from other materials, e.g. from waste materials. NOTE 1 The nominal application range does depend on precision, the lower limit per single congener is about 0,2 mg/kg. NOTE 2 For the purposes of this European Standard, the terms “% (V/V)” and “% (m/m)” are used to represent respectively the mass fraction and the volume fraction. This European Standard does not apply to insulating liquids, for which a different method (EN 61619) is available. Depending on current legislation, it may be necessary to measure either total or individual PCB congeners. EN 61619 may be followed as an alternative method for the determination of total PCBs, using the clean-up stage described in clause 8 of this standard. WARNING : The use of this standard can involve hazardous materials, operations and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.1 This European Standard specifies the safety rules for the construction and installation of permanently installed new electric lifts, with traction or positive drive, serving defined landings levels, having a vehicle designed to convey passengers or passengers and loads, suspended by ropes or chains and travelling in a vertical plan along guide rails that are inclined at an angle of between 15° and 75° in relation to the horizontal. 1.2 In addition to the requirements of this standard, supplementary requirements should be considered in special cases (potentially explosive atmosphere, extreme climate conditions, seismic conditions, transporting dangerous goods, etc.). 1.3 This European Standard does not cover: a) lifts with drives other than those stated in 1.1; b) installation of electric lifts in existing buildings to the extent that space does not permit; c) important modifications (see Annex E) to a lift installed before this standard is brought into application; d) lifting appliances, such as paternosters, mine lifts, theatrical lifts, appliances with automatic caging, skips, lifts and hoists for building and public works sites, ships' hoists, platforms for exploration or drilling at sea, construction and maintenance appliances; e) safety during transport, installation, repairs, and dismantling of lifts; f) lifts with rated speed ≤ 0,15 m/s. However, this standard may usefully be taken as a basis. Noise is not dealt with in this standard because it is not relevant to the safe use of the lift. Vibrations are dealt with for electric parts only. Direct effects on human bodies are not considered as harmful. 1.4 This European Standard does not specify the additional requirements necessary for the use of lifts in case of fire. 1.5 Taking into account the state of art, the scope of the present standard is limited as follows: — inclination: a variation in inclination is permitted for the travel path; — travel path: confined within the vertical plane; — maximum capacity of the car: 7 500 kg (100 passengers); — maximum rated speed (v): 4 m/s. This part of ISO 4190 specifies the necessary dimensions to permit the installation of Class IV lifts, as defined in 3.2.4, generally used for the transport of goods (freight). It deals with electric and hydraulic lifts. The horizontal dimensions of the wells (US: hoistways) are generally defined by the entrance and drive configurations. It covers lifts with either horizontal or vertical power-operated sliding doors. For other characteristics, the manufacturers should be consulted. This part of ISO 4190 is applicable to new lift installations, with a car with one or two entrances, to be installed in a new building. Where relevant, it may be used as a basis for an installation in an existing building. Two types of loading (load per unit area) are addressed: Series A: passenger and goods (freight) lifts with loading conforming to EN 81-1 or EN 81-2; Series B: lifts for goods (freight) only, which have a different floor loading in countries which allow this by virtue of their safety codes.
