Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts - Lifts for the transport of persons and goods - Part 20: Passenger and goods passenger lifts

1.1 This standard specifies the safety rules for permanently installed new passenger or goods passenger lifts, with traction, positive or hydraulic drive, serving defined landing levels, having a car designed for the transportation of persons or persons and goods, suspended by ropes, chains or jacks and moving between guide rails inclined not more than 15° to the vertical. 1.2 In addition to the requirements of this standard, supplementary requirements shall be considered in special cases (use of lifts by persons with disabilities, in case of fire, potentially explosive atmosphere, extreme climate conditions, seismic conditions, transporting dangerous goods, etc.). 1.3 This standard does not cover: a) lifts with: 1) drive systems other than those stated in 1.1; 2) rated speed ≤ 0,15 m/s; b) hydraulic lifts: 1) with a rated speed exceeding 1 m/s; 2) where the setting of the pressure relief valve (5.9.3.5.3) exceeds 50 MPa; c) new passenger or goods passenger lifts in existing buildings

This European Standard specifies the requirements, test methods, marking and information to be provided by the manufacturer/supplier for suspended access equipment (SAE). It is applicable to both permanent and temporary equipment which can be powered or hand operated and which are defined in Clause 3. This document is not applicable to SAE which is manufactured before the date of its publication as an EN. 1.2 Hazards This European Standard deals with significant hazards pertinent to SAE when they are used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer (see Clause 4). This European Standard specifies appropriate technical measures to eliminate or reduce risks arising from the significant hazards. 1.3 Exclusions The following are not covered in this document: a) operation in severe and special conditions (e.g. extreme environmental conditions, corrosive environments, strong magnetic fields); b) operation subject to special rules (e.g. potentially explosive atmospheres, work on live overhead electrical lines); c) transportation of passengers from one level to another; d) handling of loads which could lead to a dangerous situation (e.g. molten metal, acids/bases, radioactive materials); e) working platforms suspended by cranes; f) silo access equipment; g) SAE using chains for the direct suspension of a platform; h) SAE using fibre ropes for the suspension of a platform; i) SAE intended to be used underground; j) SAE intended to be used in shafts; k) SAE directly powered by combustion engines

Personal eye-protectors -- Non-optical test methods

This International Standard specifies the non-Optical test methods for eye-protectors the requirements for which are given in ISO 4849 to 4853. The Optical test methods are given in ISO 4854. PRELIMINARY REMARK - Of the tests described, the test for stability at elevated temperature should be carried out first on eye-protectors, generally followed by the test for robustness.

Cranes -- Safety signs and hazard pictorials -- General principles

This International Standard establishes general principles for the design and application of safety signs and hazard pictorials permanently affixed to cranes as defined in ISO 4306-1. This International Standard outlines safety sign objectives, describes the basic safety sign formats, specifies colours for safety signs, and provides guidance on developing the various Panels that together constitute a safety sign.

ISO 4190-1:2010 specifies the necessary dimensions to permit the installation of passenger lifts of class I, II, III and VI. The dimensions given reflect the requirements for the apparatus. ISO 4190-1:2010 is applicable to all new lift installations, irrespective of drive systems, including a car with entrance, to be installed in a new building.


Lift (US: Elevator) installation —Part 2:Class IV lifts

This part of ISO 4190 specifies the necessary dimensions to permit the installation of Class IV lifts, as defined in 3.2.4, generally used for the transport of goods (freight). It deals with electric and hydraulic lifts. The horizontal dimensions of the wells (US: hoistways) are generally defined by the entrance and drive configurations. It covers lifts with either horizontal or vertical power-operated sliding doors. For other characteristics, the manufacturers should be consulted. This part of ISO 4190 is applicable to new lift installations, with a car with one or two entrances, to be installed in a new building. Where relevant, it may be used as a basis for an installation in an existing building. Two types of loading (load per unit area) are addressed: Series A: passenger and goods (freight) lifts with loading conforming to EN 81-1 or EN 81-2; Series B: lifts for goods (freight) only, which have a different floor loading in countries which allow this by virtue of their safety codes.


Passenger lift installations - Part 3 : Service lifts class V

Establishes the dimensions relating to the installation of lifts comprising a car the interior of which is inaccessible to persons due to its dimensions and means of construction, running at least partially between rigid guides which are vertical or whose inclination to the vertical is less than 15 . Part 1 covers the lifts of classes I, II and III, part 2 the lifts of class IV, part 5 control devices, signals and additional fittings, and part 6 planning and selection of passenger lifts.


Lift (Elevator) installation —Part 5:Control devices, signals and

ISO 4190-5:2006 specifies the control devices, buttons and indicators to be provided when a lift (US: elevator) is constructed and installed, taking into account the type of control intended for the lift and also ensuring the ease of access for disabled persons (motor and/or sensory). It also specifies the requirements for handrails when provided in the car. It is applicable to lifts of classes I to IV and VI as defined in ISO 4190-1 and ISO 4190-2.


Writing boards for educational institutions - Ergonomic, technical and safety requirements and their test methods

This European Standard specifies ergonomic, technical and safety requirements for wall mounted and freestanding writing boards for use in rooms for educational and training purposes, e.g. classrooms, lecture theatres for schools, universities, etc. It is intended to prevent serious injury through normal functional use, as well as misuse that might reasonably be expected to occur. This document applies to units after installation. Safety depending on the structure of the building is not included, e.g. the strength of wall mounted boards includes only the board and its parts. The wall and the wall attachment are not included. Requirements concerning electrical safety are not included. Annex A (normative) includes an assessment scale for the ability to write and erase. Annex B (informative) includes terminology for display writing boards. Annex C (informative) includes significant technical differences between this document and EN 14434:2004.


Furniture - Ranked seating - Requirements for safety, strength and durability

This European Standard specifies requirements determining the safety, structural strength and durability of all types of seating that are permanently fastened to the floor and/or wall, whether in bench or individual seat form. This standard does not apply to linked seating not fastened to the floor and/or walls and street furniture. It does not include requirements for resistance to ageing, degradation, flammability, the effect of ambient temperature and the durability of upholstery materials. Furniture - Classification for properties for furniture surfaces

This Technical Specification specifies a system for the classification of the resistance to: - Dry heat - Wet heat - Cold liquids - Abrasion - Scratching For resistance to dry heat, resistance to wet heat, and resistance to cold liquids, this Technical Specification applies to all furniture surfaces regardless of materials, except finishes on leather and fabrics. The classification for the surface resistance to abrasion applies to foil, laminate, melamine faced boards, pigmented and transparent coatings. It does not apply to the surfaces covered by EN 14434. The classification for the surface resistance to scratching has two methods, A and B. Method A applies to all types of surface coatings and coverings except for melamine faced boards and HPL. Method B applies to all types of surfaces. It does not apply to finishes on leather and fabrics.


Water safety signs and beach safety flags — Part 3: Guidance for use

This part of ISO 20712 gives guidance for the selection and use of water safety signs as specified in ISO 20712‑1 and beach safety flags as specified in ISO 20712‑2, in aquatic environments. It provides guidance on their location, mounting positions, lighting and maintenance. It also provides guidance on the design and location of multiple signs. This part of ISO 20712 does not apply to traffic signs for use on the public highway or maritime signalling. It is not applicable to flags for use on firing ranges or to flags used to indicate water quality. It does not cover means of escape signs and their illumination which may be present. NOTE The illustrations in this part of ISO 20712 are as accurate as possible within the limitations of the printing process.

This part of EN 957 is applicable to stationary training equipment type rowing machines, hereinafter referrd to as rowing machines, within the classes S and H and class A regarding accuracy. If accessories are provided with the rowing machine for the performance of additional exercises these are subject to the requirements of EN 957-1 and any other specific requirements of the appropriate prt of this standard.


Corrosion Protection of Steel Structures by Protective Paint Systems — Assessment of, and Acceptance Criteria for, the Adhesion/ Cohesion (Fracture Strength) of a Coating — Part 1: Pull-off Testing

This part of ISO 16276 specifies procedures for assessing the fracture strength of a protective paint coating of any thickness on a steel substrate of thickness not less than 10 mm. The procedures given in this part of ISO 16276 are based on methods used with different types of pull-off test equipment. The results obtained using such different types of equipment are not comparable. NOTE 1 Substrates of less than 10 mm in thickness can be tested if they are strengthened by the sandwich technique (see ISO 4624) or by the nature of the structure (e.g. I-beam or backing-plate). Otherwise, test panels with a thickness of at least 10 mm coated in the same way as the structure can be used, or the method specified ISO 16276-2 can be used. This part of ISO 16276 is only applicable if a fracture strength value is specified, together with the type of test equipment and the manufacturer of the equipment. Usually, this information is included in contract documentation. NOTE 2 A value for the fracture strength is only meaningful if the requirements concerning the ambient conditions (see 6.4.2) are met. This part of ISO 16276 also specifies suitable equipment and defines inspection areas, sampling plans andacceptance/rejection criteria. It does not give any values of the fracture strength of different protective paint coatings.


Corrosion Protection of Steel Structures by Protective Paint Systems — Assessment of, and Acceptance Criteria for, the Adhesion/ Cohesion (Fracture Strength) of a Coating — Part 2: Cross-cut Testing and X-Cut Testing

This part of ISO 16276 specifies procedures for rating the resistance of coating systems when a cut in the form of a right-angle lattice pattern (cross-cut) or in the form of an X (X-cut) is made into the coating, penetrating through to the substrate. This part of ISO 16276 is only applicable if the cross-cut or X-cut test method is specified, together with the rating from the appropriate rating scale. NOTE The characteristics of the coating can make the assessment of the result of a cross-cut or X-cut test difficult. This part of ISO 16276 also specifies suitable equipment and defines inspection areas, sampling plans and acceptance/rejection criteria. It does not specify ratings for particular coating systems.


Paints and Varnishes — Corrosion Protection by Protective Paint Systems — Assessment of Porosity in a Dry Film

This International Standard specifies procedures for detecting the presence of porosity in a protective paint system of any thickness on a steel or other metallic substrate. The procedures given in this International Standard are based on methods using two different types of test equipment, the choice of equipment depending on the dry film thickness. These procedures are only applicable to the testing of electrically nonconductive parts of a paint system. The test methods specified are mainly intended for use with new coatings, but can also be used for coatings which have been in service for some time. In the latter case, it is important to bear in mind that the coating might have been penetrated by substances in contact with the coating during service.


Plastics — Poly(methyl methacrylate) Sheets ― Types, Dimensions and Characteristics — Part 1: Cast Sheets

This part of ISO 7823 specifies requirements for non-modified flat poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) cast sheets (plates) for general-purpose use. The sheets may be colourless or coloured, and may be transparent, translucent or opaque. The thickness range of the sheets covered by this part of ISO 7823 is 1,5 mm to 25 mm.


Plastics — Poly(methyl methacrylate) Sheets ― Types, Dimensions and Characteristics — Part 2: Extruded Sheets

This part of ISO 7823 specifies requirements for flat poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) sheets extruded from colourless or coloured, transparent, translucent or opaque materials as defined in 3.1. The thickness range of the sheets covered by this part of ISO 7823 is 1,5 mm to 20 mm.


Plastics — Poly(methyl methacrylate) Sheets ― Types, Dimensions and Characteristics — Part 3: Continuous Cast Sheets

This part of ISO 7823 specifies requirements for non-modified flat poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) continuous cast sheets for general-purpose use. The sheets may be colourless or coloured, and may be transparent, translucent or opaque. The thickness range of the sheets covered by this part of ISO 7823 is 1 mm to 10 mm.


Physical and Chemical Properties of Engine Oils

The procedure for the preparation of a principal solution for chemical analysis requires at first an alkaline fusion of the test portion, either with a mixture of sodium carbonate and boric acid or with a mixture of sodium carbonate and sodium tetraborate. Subsequent dissolution of the molten mass in an excess of nitric acid and adjustment of an appropriate aliquot portion to pH 2. Replaces ISO Recommendation R804/1968.


Earth-moving machinery — Safety — Part 7: Requirements for scrapers

ISO 20474-4:2017 gives the safety requirements specific to wheeled and crawler backhoe loaders as defined in ISO 6165. It is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO 20474‑1, which specifies general safety requirements common to two or more earth-moving machine families. The specific requirements given in this document take precedence over the general requirements of ISO 20474‑1. ISO 20474-4:2017 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to the earth-moving machinery within its scope (see ISO 20474‑1:2017, Annex A) when used as intended or under conditions of misuse reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. It specifies the appropriate technical measures for eliminating or reducing risks arising from relevant hazards, hazardous situations or events during commissioning, operation and maintenance. ISO 20474-4:2017 is not applicable to machines manufactured before the date of its publication.


Earth-moving machinery — Safety — Part 5: Requirements for hydraulic excavators

ISO 20474-5:2017 gives the safety requirements specific to hydraulic excavators as defined in ISO 6165. It is intended to be used in conjunction with ISO 20474-1, which specifies general safety requirements common to two or more earth-moving machine families. The specific requirements given in this document take precedence over the general requirements of ISO 20474-1.
